Jacqui teaches print workshops at Birmingham Printmakers and Westhope College, Shropshire.  This year a new venue has been added Wightwick Manor & Gardens, near Wolverhampton for the National Trust. Jacqui also teaches print as part of exhibitions and funded projects in museum, and heritage venues.

CITY & GUILDS PrintMAking

Nine weekends at Westhope College from October 2019

Tutor: Jacqui Dodds

This is a City & Guild Level 2 qualification in Printmaking. The course will enable you to become a well-informed designer, to sample ideas and create professional quality work in printmaking to a standard that you would be able to sell.

This qualification is based on strong practical skills in both the theory of design and construction of making prints.

Drypoint Printing with Paper Plates                 

Wednesday 24th April  10.00am to 4.00pm   £75

The soft feathery lines of drypoint lend themselves to playful illustrations or expressive sketches. Learn how to make a drypoint plate using inexpensive laminated paper plates, ink up and print onto paper using a small etching press.  Then you will add colour to your print with the technique of chine colleé.

Using your own designs and images, you will learn about inks and registration and produce an exciting print.  A one day workshop.

REDUCTION LINO PRINTING

One day workshop learning  how to make a two colour reduction lino print using your own image, photo or design.

This process is where one piece of lino is used multiple times in one print as the lino block is re cut after each colour is printed. We will also cover tools, materials and registration techniques.

Although this is intended as an intermediate level lino/relief workshop, beginners have attended this course with very  good results.

bEGINNERS LINO PRINTING                 

Wednesday 3rd July   10.00am to 4.00pm   £70 (plus 5% booking fee)

One day printmaking workshop - Using this simple but exciting process make a one colour lino print with a design or photo of your own. You will learn how to transfer your design onto vinyl, use lino tools to carve out and then block printing inks to print onto paper using a small etching press. Suitable for beginners or those wishing to brush up on skills.

COPPER SULPHATE ETCHING                   

Wednesday 11th September   10.00am to 4.00pm  £75

This is an introductory workshop to etching aluminium with copper sulphate, a relatively non-toxic method of etching. Learn how to make a plate for etching using a variety of resists to create mark making elements on your plate. You will then etch your plate using copper sulphate, learn how to ink up your plate and then print your design using a small etching press.

Colour can then be added using the chine-collé method of adding coloured tissue or delicate patterned papers.

LINO PRINT Embossing into clay

Wednesday 4th September 10.00am to 4.00pm     £60

Using either inspiration from the collection at the Tile Museum or your own design, we will be learning how to cut a lino block using lino tools and equipment. Then we will be pressing this into clay to create an embossed surface which will then be fired.

Your fired ceramic pieces can then be glazed at a later date.

There will also be the opportunity to hand print your lino block onto paper.
